A remarkable festival Mass
On 11 May 2026, exactly 200 years since the then Bishop of London, William Hawley, dedicated St Mary's to the Glory of God, there was a remarkable Mass of Thanksgiving at the church. It's our birthday – and it's a big one!
On 11 May 2026, it will be exactly 200 years since the then Bishop of London, William Howell, consecrated St Mary's Church, Somers Town. Built as a chapel of ease for the new St Pancras Church, St Mary's was designed by William Inwood and his son Henry. As time goes by…
Last week, we took down the tower clock at St Mary's in order to access and repair the stone surround. The clock face and hands have gone off to clockmakers Smith of Derby for restoration. The face is made from copper and was originally black, but the verdigris has come through. The clock face will be stripped back and repainted, and the hands and numerals will be gilded. The whole process should take around six weeks, and the clock face will be back in position before the s

Work behind the Tower Screening
Work is ongoing to clean the tower and west end stonework at St Marys Church. Removing 200 years of grime from the stonework will make it much brighter!
