On 11 May 2026, it will be exactly 200 years since the then Bishop of London, William Howell, consecrated St Mary's Church, Somers Town.
Built as a chapel of ease for the new St Pancras Church, St Mary's was designed by William Inwood and his son Henry. It cost £13,629 to build and was designed to hold 1,500 people in response to a lack of city churches to meet the rapidly expanding urban population.
The Bicentennial Dedication Festival kicks off a summer of events and celebrations, from participation in the London Festival of Architecture to tea parties, bingo sessions and concerts - watch this space!
All are welcome. If you'd like to come, letting us know on our Eventbrite page or via email: info@parishofsomerstown.org.uk or phone/text/Whatsapp: 07340 378831 helps us plan numbers – or just turn up. It should be a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
