This week saw the start of emergency works to St Mary's to keep the rain out this winter and to prepare the tower for Phase 1 works. The Friends raised over £6,000 in September and October to pay for 200 roof slates to replace those that have slipped, or are missing or damaged. Work over the first week has fixed some of the worst patches on the roof, with buckets being removed from the north west corner for the first time in months. The team is coming back in two weeks to make repairs to the southern side.
A seperate team has been working on the top half of the tower, ensuring that the stonework is stable and won't be a danger to the workmen and public below once the main works start later this month. Both teams from Vertex Access are having to work in difficult conditions, from ropes, as the top of the building isn't scaffolded.
A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed towards these works, and to the teams at Vertex Access who are working so hard to fix our beautiful building.
